Art and Sculpture Casting

Art Casting and Digital Sculpture — From CAD to Monumental Bronze

When artists conceive monumental visions, traditional lost-wax handcraft becomes the bottleneck. 3DPTEK SLS wax mold 3D printing replaces weeks of manual wax work with digital precision, enabling complex surface textures, thin-walled structures down to 5 mm, and sculptures up to 9 meters tall. Two landmark projects: Peaceful Elephant and Deep Sighs of the Pacific.

Where Art Meets Engineering

What We Cast for Artists and Sculptors

Art casting is fundamentally different from industrial casting: every piece is one-of-a-kind, surface texture is paramount, and the artist vision must survive the journey from digital model to monumental metal. Our SLS wax mold technology makes that possible at any scale.

🗿

Monumental Sculpture

Up to 9 meters tall, 9 tonnes. Single-piece or segmented assembly casting for public art and memorials.

🖼️

Architectural Relief

Wall panels, facade elements, and ornamental building features. Complex bas-relief detail preserved.

🏛️

Heritage Restoration

Replicas of damaged or missing sculpture sections. 3D scan to wax mold to exact metal reproduction.

🎨

Custom Installations

One-off artistic commissions, gallery pieces, and corporate art. Any metal, any finish, any complexity.

Art Casting Types

Sculpture Casting Services We Provide

Every art project has unique requirements — size, material, surface detail, timeline. Here is the full range of sculpture casting we deliver, each with documented landmark projects.

Bronze Portrait and Figurative Sculpture

Life-size and larger-than-life human figures, busts, and animal sculptures. Silicon bronze captures every nuance of the artist clay or digital model — from skin texture to fabric folds. Our SLS wax molds reproduce details that hand-carved wax cannot match: consistent wall thickness, zero mold seams on critical surfaces, and perfect symmetry.

Silicon Bronze Life-Size and Larger Patina-Ready

Architectural Art and Relief Casting

Building facade panels, ornamental grilles, decorative reliefs, and entrance sculptures for hotels, cultural centers, and corporate headquarters. Our digital wax mold process maintains perfect registration across large relief panels, ensuring seamless assembly on-site. Materials: bronze, brass, aluminum, stainless steel.

Relief Panels Multi-Panel Registration Aluminum and Bronze

Custom Art Installation Casting

One-off artistic commissions, gallery exhibition pieces, and corporate art collections. Artists work directly from their digital files (STL, OBJ, STEP) and receive a finished metal sculpture without weeks of manual wax carving. Ideal for complex geometries with undercuts, thin sections, and interlocking parts.

One-Off Direct CAD to Metal Any Complexity

Heritage Restoration Casting

Replacement casting for damaged or missing sections of historic sculptures, statues, and architectural ornaments. 3D scan the surviving original, digitally reconstruct the missing portion, print the SLS wax mold, and cast a perfect replica. Same metal, same patina, seamless integration with the existing artwork.

How It Works

From Digital Art to Finished Sculpture

Unlike traditional lost-wax casting which requires weeks of manual wax carving, our digital pipeline compresses the journey from artist vision to physical metal into a streamlined, repeatable process.

1 📐

Digital Model

Artist provides CAD file (STL, OBJ, STEP). For existing sculptures, we 3D-scan and digitize. Model optimization for printability and casting flow.

2 🖨️

SLS Wax Mold Printing

Laser-sintered wax patterns printed at 700×700×500mm per build. For monumental works, segments are printed and assembled into casting clusters.

3 🔥

Investment and Casting

Ceramic shell investment, wax burnout at 800°C, and metal pour. Silicon bronze at 1,150°C, 316L stainless at 1,550°C.

4

Finishing and Patina

Shell removal, metal chasing, weld assembly for segmented works, surface finishing, and chemical patina to artist specification.

Landmark Projects

Art Casting Case Studies

These landmark projects demonstrate 3DPTEK capability at the intersection of art, engineering, and additive manufacturing.

Peaceful Elephant monumental sculpture
National Monument Project

Peaceful Elephant — 9m Monumental Sculpture

Material 316L Stainless Steel
Dimensions 9 meters tall, 9 tonnes
Process SLS Wax Mold + Investment Casting
Wall Thickness 5 to 8 mm
Key Challenge Segmented casting assembly, thin-wall consistency

A 9-meter-tall elephant sculpture weighing 9 tonnes — one of the largest SLS wax mold investment castings ever produced. The segmented approach required 3D-printed wax mold clusters assembled with sub-millimeter precision. The 316L stainless steel provides permanent outdoor weather resistance without protective coating.

Deep Sighs of the Pacific sculpture
International Art Commission

Deep Sighs of the Pacific

Material Silicon Bronze
Weight 1,445 kg
Process SLS Wax Mold + Investment Casting
Surface Complex organic texture, artist patina
Key Challenge Capturing organic surface detail at scale

A 1,445 kg silicon bronze sculpture featuring deeply organic, flowing surface textures. The artist digital model contained surface details that would have been impossible to reproduce by hand in wax. SLS wax mold printing captured every nuance — the finished bronze is indistinguishable from the digital render.

Material Palette

Metals for Art and Sculpture

Three alloy families for artistic expression, each with distinct aesthetic and performance characteristics.

🥉
Silicon Bronze

Warm golden-brown. Patinas to greens, browns, blacks. The classic sculpture metal. Pour at 1,150°C.

316L Stainless Steel

Bright silver-white. Zero corrosion, zero maintenance outdoors. Pour at 1,550°C. Ideal for monumental works.

🔆
Aluminum Alloy

Lightweight silver-gray. Anodizable in colors. Ideal for interior installations and suspended artworks.

🟤
Brass

Rich golden tone. Develops natural patina over time. Excellent for architectural ornaments and decorative elements.
