Production Metal Binder Jetting

3DPTEK-J800P: Production Metal Binder Jetting 3D Printer

An 800 × 500 × 400 mm build volume, four printheads up to 1200 dpi, and up to 8 L/h metal / 12 L/h SiC throughput — Binder Jetting economics that replace MIM tooling and cut cost per part versus SLM. Print stainless steel, titanium, copper, tungsten, high-temperature alloys and silicon carbide, without lasers or support structures.

Metal 3D Printing Without the SLM Price Tag

SLM produces excellent metal parts, but at high cost per part and with limited throughput. Binder Jetting changes the economics: faster builds, lower powder costs, no supports — and materials like copper and tungsten that laser systems struggle with. The J800P brings that production economics to your factory.

High Per-Part Cost of SLM

Slow build speeds, expensive powder and support structures make SLM costly for production quantities. Binder Jetting prints tens of times faster, so per-part cost is typically 3–5× lower at scale.

Before Per-part cost 3–5× higher at scale
With J800P Batch printing, no supports — cost per part drops

Tooling Lock-In of MIM

Each MIM mold set costs $30K–80K and takes weeks to produce. The J800P prints parts directly from CAD — no tooling, no lead time, and no risk when design iterations change.

Materials Lasers Can’t Handle

Copper, tungsten and some high-temperature alloys are challenging for SLM due to laser reflectivity and thermal stress. Binder Jetting prints them naturally — opening thermal-management and shielding applications.

What the J800P Delivers

Production-scale metal Binder Jetting for MIM manufacturers, foundries and precision component producers.

800 × 500 × 400 mm Build Volume

The largest metal Binder Jetting build in the 3DPTEK lineup. Print large individual parts or batch-produce thousands of small components per build.

8 L/h Metal · 12 L/h SiC

4 industrial printheads deposit binder across the full 800 mm width. Up to 8 L/h on metal and 12 L/h on silicon carbide, with consistent layer times regardless of part complexity.

Ultrasonic Spreading + Siemens PLC

Ultrasonic vibration spreading lays uniform layers, while Siemens PLC controls keep the machine running reliably. Automatic material feeding, printhead cleaning and heating-assisted curing reduce operator workload.

±0.1 mm Accuracy, 67% Green Density

High green-part density gives excellent strength for handling and sintering, while ±0.1 mm printing accuracy meets demanding MIM, mold and tooling requirements.

400 / 800 / 1200 dpi Resolution

Configurable printhead resolution balances speed and detail — 1200 dpi for fine features, 400 dpi for maximum throughput on large parts.

Factory-Ready Footprint

2,670 × 1,850 × 2,770 mm, ≈4.2 t, 9 KW three-phase power. Automatic feeding, printhead cleaning and heating-assisted curing keep production moving.

From CAD File to Production Metal Parts in 5 Steps

Industrial metal Binder Jetting in five steps — from design file to serial production, no tooling required.

1

CAD Design

Import STL models and nest multiple parts across the 800 × 500 mm build area for maximum utilization.

2

Slice & Nest

AFSWin3DP-L slices, nests and sets the multi-nozzle print strategy with material-specific parameters for metals and SiC.

3

Binder Jet Print

Ultrasonic powder spreading and a 4-printhead inkjet array deposit binder layer by layer at up to 8 L/h (metal) or 12 L/h (SiC).

4

Cure & Debind

Batch curing strengthens full-build green parts; thermal or solvent debinding removes the binder — compatible with continuous debinding & sintering lines.

5

Sinter & Finish

High-temperature sintering to near-full density with software-compensated shrinkage — then CNC finishing, polishing or coating as required.

Metal Binder Jetting vs. SLM: What Changes at Production Scale

Both technologies produce dense metal parts — the difference is what happens to your cost per part, throughput and material options once you scale.

Comparison3DPTEK-J800P (Binder Jetting)SLM (Laser Powder Bed Fusion)
Build Volume800 × 500 × 400 mm250–400 mm class typical
Cost Per Part (production)3–5× lowerBenchmark
Support StructuresNone requiredRequired — removal & machining
Material RangeSS, Ti, Cu, W, high-temp alloys, SiCMostly Ti, SS and Ni alloys
Batch ProductionThousands of small parts per buildLimited packing density
ToolingNone — printed directly from CADNone — but slow per part
Post-ProcessingDebind + sinter + optional finishStress relief, support removal, finish

The J800P is the right choice when you need copper, tungsten or high-temperature alloys, or when you are producing the same small-to-medium parts in high volumes. SLM remains competitive for complex, low-volume parts requiring as-built surfaces.

Mass Production Economics: J800P vs. MIM at Scale

At 8 L/h (metal) / 12 L/h (SiC) throughput with an 800 × 500 × 400 mm build volume, the J800P is engineered to replace MIM tooling for serial production.

8–12 L/h Production Throughput Thousands of small parts per build — 24/7 operation capable
$0 tooling Zero Tooling Cost Eliminate $30K–80K per mold set; savings can exceed $500K/year
800×500×400 mm Largest BJ Metal Build Real production batches — not just prototype-sized builds
Metal + SiC Dual Revenue Streams One capital investment, two production lines

A single J800P can replace 5–10 MIM mold sets running in parallel — and because parts are printed from CAD, there is no tooling risk when a design changes. For factories running 20+ active part numbers, the annual mold-cost savings alone can exceed $500K.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most before investing in production metal Binder Jetting.

  • The J800P prints 800 × 500 × 400 mm per build with four printheads at 400/800/1200 dpi. Maximum throughput is 8 L/h for metal materials and 12 L/h for silicon carbide, with dimensional accuracy of ±0.1 mm and 67% green part density.

  • 304/316L stainless steel, titanium alloy, copper alloy, tungsten alloy, high-temperature alloys and silicon carbide (SiC). Typical powder particle size is 5–25 µm. Sintering shrinkage is approximately 15–16% for stainless steel and 14–15% for titanium alloy — compensated automatically in software.

  • Requirements: 380VAC/50Hz/9KW three-phase five-wire power, clean dry compressed air at 0.6–0.8 MPa with minimum flow of 1.5 m³/min, factory ceiling height ≥3.5 m, floor load ≥3 t/m², and ambient conditions of 22–28 °C / 30–50% RH. Post-processing needs curing, debinding and sintering furnaces — 3DPTEK provides complete facility-planning documentation with the order.

  • Binder Jetting prints tens of times faster than laser-based SLM for batch parts and needs no support structures, so per-part cost is typically 3–5× lower at production volumes. Compared with MIM, the J800P eliminates mold tooling entirely — parts are printed directly from CAD, making it economical for both prototyping and serial production.

  • Yes. Switch powder and binder systems on the same platform: metals at up to 8 L/h with 400/800/1200 dpi resolution, and silicon carbide at up to 12 L/h with 400 dpi. One capital investment, two production lines.

  • Yes. 3DPTEK’s Production Pilot Program prints your parts on a J800P at our facility and ships the sintered batch with full quality and throughput data — so you can validate part quality, economics and market demand before investing. Many customers also start with a 3DPTEK-J400P for in-house piloting, then scale up to the J800P.
