3DPTEK-J4000Pro: Mega-Format Sand Molds at 1,744 L/h
The J4000Pro prints flaskless sand molds over 4 meters at up to 1,744 L/h — a full 4,000 × 2,500 × 1,500 mm build tank every 10.6–17 hours, producing 10+ tonnes of sand molds per cycle. Built on a steel frame with heavy rails and powered rollers, it is engineered for continuous, high-volume mega-casting production.

When Your Castings Outgrow Conventional 3D Printing
Mega-castings used to mean six-figure patterns, segmented molds and months of lead time. The J4000Pro removes all three — at production throughput that makes 3D printing a genuine alternative to the pattern shop.
Six-Figure Pattern Costs
Pattern sets for mega-castings cost $50,000–$200,000+ and take 8–16 weeks to machine. The J4000Pro eliminates them entirely — print the complete mold directly from CAD. Days, not months.
Multi-Segment Mold Assembly
Traditional mega-casting molds need dozens of pattern segments, and every joint is a potential defect. The J4000Pro prints the complete mold as a single integrated assembly — fewer joints, better casting quality.
Months of Lead Time
Mega-casting projects routinely take 4–6 months from pattern order to first pour. With the J4000Pro, foundries quote weeks instead of months — and win orders that competitors cannot deliver.
Production Performance at a Glance

Facility & Engineering Requirements
Why Foundries Choose the J4000Pro
At the 4-meter scale, engineering maturity and production throughput matter most. The J4000Pro was built for foundries that need more than a prototype machine.
4m+ Boxless Flexible-Area Forming
Patented boxless flexible-area technology breaks the rule that larger forming sizes mean exponentially higher prices — a 4 m or larger machine is priced at the level of a much smaller system, and local printing saves sand on smaller jobs.
Class-Leading Throughput
At 1,090–1,744 L/h, a full build tank is completed in 10.6–17 hours. Each cycle produces 10+ tonnes of sand molds — among the highest output of any sand binder jetting system available.
17-Printhead 400 dpi Precision
International first-line, high-precision, high-throughput printheads deliver ±0.5 mm accuracy with excellent surface quality, low gas evolution and high mold strength.
Built for Continuous Production
A steel-frame main structure on heavy rails with powered rollers moves build tanks between printing, curing and cleaning stations. Bidirectional vibrated spreading at 20.4 s/layer keeps the machine cycling with minimal downtime.

Traditional Pattern Machining vs. the J4000Pro
The same mega-casting, two very different cost structures. See what the J4000Pro changes for high-volume mold production.
Traditional Pattern Machining
- $50,000–$200,000+ per pattern set for mega-castings
- 8–16 weeks of pattern machining before the first pour
- 24+ mold segments joined by hand — every joint a defect risk
- Design changes cost weeks of re-machining and re-fitting
- 4–6 months from order to first casting
3DPTEK-J4000Pro
- $0 tooling — print molds directly from CAD
- Days to first mold — one build tank in 10.6–17 h
- Single integrated mold — fewer joints, better casting quality
- Design changes in hours — update the CAD, reprint
- 3–4 weeks from order to first casting
Capacity estimate based on 10+ t per build and one build per ~10.6–17 h under continuous two-shift operation. Actual output depends on part geometry, layer strategy and utilization.
Application Cases
Mega-castings produced on J4000-series systems in production environments.

Hydropower Turbine Runner Mold
Francis turbine runner sand mold — 3.8 m diameter. Complex 3D blade geometry printed as a single integrated mold. A traditional pattern would have required 24+ segments and 12 weeks of machining. Printed on the J4000Pro, the complete mold was delivered in days, and the first article passed dimensional inspection before pouring.

Ship Propeller Mold
Large marine propeller sand mold — 3.2 m diameter. Printed as cope/drag assembly with integrated gating system. Lead time reduced from 10 weeks to 7 days.

Wind Turbine Hub Casting
Wind turbine main hub casting — 3.5 m. Single-piece sand mold replacing an 18-piece traditional pattern. Cast in ductile iron. Inspection passed on first article.

Industrial Press Frame
Large hydraulic press frame mold — 4 m. Complex internal ribbing impossible with traditional patterns. Single-piece print eliminated 30+ core boxes.

J4000Pro FAQ
Straight answers on build size, throughput, facility requirements, and seeing the J4000Pro in production.
The J4000Pro uses boxless flexible-area forming technology to print sand molds over 4 meters in length. Actual forming volume is 4,000 × 2,500 × 1,500 mm inside a 4,400 × 2,800 × 1,500 mm build tank. Local printing is supported for smaller jobs to save sand.
Design throughput is 1,090–1,744 L/h, so one full build tank is completed in roughly 10.6–17 hours. Each build produces 10+ tonnes of sand molds — among the highest output of any sand binder jetting system on the market.
The main unit footprint is 12.5 × 10.5 × 6.5 m, with a total system footprint of about 30 × 15 m including sand handling, curing and cleaning stations. The main structure is a steel frame on heavy rails with powered rollers that move the build tank between stations.
Quartz sand or ceramic (ceramsite) sand with furan or phenolic resin binders. Printed molds achieve tensile strength of 1.5–2.5 MPa and gas evolution of 8–11 ml/g at 850 °C, with minimum wall thickness of 2–3 mm — suitable for aluminum, copper, iron and steel castings.
The J4000Pro requires a floor load capacity of at least 5 t/m² following our foundation drawings, plus adequate building height for the 6.5 m tall main unit. We provide complete foundation engineering, utility specifications, and conduct pre-installation site surveys.
