AFS-M300XAS — Print 3D Composition Gradients, Machine Them In-Process
The AFS-M300XAS combines multi-material SLM with an integrated CNC module: blend up to four metal powders into continuous X-Y-Z gradients with dual 500 W IPG lasers, then mill critical features in the same machine — no re-fixturing, no lost registration, no second datum.

Why a Multi-Material Hybrid Platform?
Real components rarely need a single material — and gradient parts rarely meet final tolerance straight off the laser. The AFS-M300XAS attacks both problems in one machine.
Dissimilar Alloys Are Joined, Not Grown
A wear-resistant surface on a tough core usually means brazing, cladding or welded joints — every one a potential failure interface in service.
Print continuous composition gradients instead: a hard face that transitions metallurgically into a tough core, with no joint to fail.
Gradient Parts Need Machining Anyway
As-printed SLM surfaces rarely meet final tolerance. Moving the part to a separate CNC re-introduces fixturing error — and risks machining away the gradient zone.
The integrated subtractive module machines critical features in-process, before the part leaves the build volume — one datum throughout.
Alloy R&D Moves at the Speed of Casting
Conventional alloy development casts dozens of discrete samples — each with its own melt, pour and test cycle. Months of work to explore one composition space.
Print dozens of composition variants on a single plate and screen them in days — with research mode running different parameters in the same batch.
One Hybrid Platform vs. a Traditional SLM + CNC Workflow
The same finished component, two very different routes. See where the AFS-M300XAS removes steps — and error — from the process.
Print on an SLM machine
Single-material build, or several machines if you need different alloys.
Stress relief & plate removal
Heat treatment, wire EDM cut-off, and days of queue time between operations.
Move to CNC & re-fixture
Manual alignment on a new datum — tolerance stack-up begins before any metal is cut.
Finish machining
Critical features milled to size; the gradient zone can be mis-located or machined away.
Two machines, two datums, multiple handling steps — and no way to recover a misplaced gradient zone.
Program the gradient profile
Define material ratios and transition curves in AFSWin V8.4 — continuous, stepped or custom.
Print multi-material layers
Up to four powders metered by volume ratio; dual 500 W IPG lasers fuse each layer.
Machine critical features in-process
At programmed layer intervals the spindle mills features to dimension — same build, same datum.
Finished part, one platform
Part leaves the build volume closer to final tolerance, with the gradient zone exactly where it was designed.
One machine, one datum. Machining happens on the part while it is still registered in the build volume.
Engineered for Gradient Integrity and Finish
Six subsystems working as one — powder, laser, atmosphere, cooling, software and an in-process machining module. Together they make multi-material gradient printing practical.
Full 3D Gradient Powder Feeding
Four or more powder materials are metered by volume ratio and delivered to any location on the build plate. Composition can change continuously along the X-axis, and in stepped or custom profiles along the Y and Z axes — with ratio-programmable gradient alloys made by reconfiguring the powder feed.
- Continuous X-axis composition gradient — two powders, 0–100%
- Y / Z-axis step and custom transition profiles
- Ratio-programmable gradient alloys for bespoke compositions
Integrated CNC Subtractive Module
A high-speed electric spindle on precision linear guides, driven by servo motors and measured by a high-resolution glass scale — machines features in three axes inside the build chamber.
Dual 500 W IPG Fiber Lasers
Two single-mode fiber lasers with TEM00 beam quality (M² < 1.05), up to 6 m/s scan speed and ~25% electro-optic efficiency — fast, stable melting across the 300 mm plate.
Closed-Loop Inert Gas Recirculation
Chamber atmosphere is continuously filtered and recirculated with oxygen held at a set level — no gas exchange needed, and a stable environment for reactive alloys like titanium.
Dual-Temp Dual-Control Chiller
Independent temperature control keeps lasers and optics stable in every season — fast startup, and uninterrupted long builds.
AFSWin V8.4 + Industrial Control
Self-developed software for gradient profile programming and process control, running on a Siemens PLC with global first-line components throughout.

Các câu hỏi thường gặp
It adds two capabilities in one machine: multi-material gradient powder feeding (4+ powders with X-Y-Z composition control) and an integrated CNC subtractive module that machines critical features in-process — so gradient parts come off the platform closer to final dimensions.
At least four powder materials can be metered into one build — from continuous X-axis gradients to stepped Y/Z profiles and custom ratio-programmed gradient alloys. The powder feed can also be reconfigured for your own custom combinations.
A high-speed electric spindle on precision linear guides machines features in three axes inside the build chamber at programmed layer intervals — achieving dimensional accuracy and surface finish that as-printed SLM parts cannot match, without removing or re-fixturing the part.
Stainless steel (304, 316L), titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, die steels, cobalt-chrome alloys and nickel-based alloys — plus multi-material gradient combinations and custom powder sets qualified in the 3DPTEK application lab.
Both, with a bias toward R&D. The 300×300×250 mm build and research mode (multiple parameter sets per batch) suit materials science, medical and aerospace R&D, while the same machine produces functional prototypes and short-series components with machined features.
3DPTEK validates printed gradients with EDS line scans, microhardness mapping and metallographic cross-sections — documenting microstructure and property data for each qualified combination.
