Learn More Wax Casting

Wax casting, also known as lost wax casting or investment casting, is a precise metal-forming technique that has been used for thousands of years. It’s an excellent method for creating detailed and complex metal parts. Here’s an overview of the wax casting process:

Pattern Creation:

Traditionally, a wax pattern is hand-carved or molded.
Modern methods often use wax 3D printer to create wax patterns, allowing for more complex designs and faster production.

Tree Assembly:

Multiple wax patterns are attached to a central wax sprue, forming a tree-like structure.
This allows for multiple parts to be cast simultaneously.


The wax tree is dipped into a ceramic slurry, then coated with fine sand or stucco.
This process is repeated several times to build up a thick, heat-resistant shell.


The invested mold is placed in a furnace or autoclave.
The wax melts and runs out, leaving a hollow ceramic shell.


The mold is fired at high temperatures to remove any remaining wax and harden the ceramic.


Molten metal is poured into the hot mold, filling the cavities left by the melted wax.
Cooling and Breaking:
Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is broken away.


The cast parts are cut from the sprue and finished as needed (polishing, machining, etc.).
